Mr. Abu Bakar has been appointed as the Chief Executive Officer of the Pakistan Software Export Board (PSEB). With 24 years of global experience, including 15 years in C-suite roles, Mr. Abu Bakar brings extensive knowledge and leadership to drive PSEB’s mission of fostering growth and innovation within Pakistan’s IT sector.
Most recently, Mr. Abu Bakar served as Chief Information and Digital Officer at Summit Medical Group and CityMD, where he led technology strategy, governance, and implementation. Under his leadership, Summit Health achieved significant growth, expanding from $300 million to $3 billion in revenue before being sold to Walgreens/VillageMD for $8.9 billion in Q1 2023. Following this success, he embarked on an entrepreneurial journey, leveraging his expertise to invest in and mentor the tech industry.
Previously, Mr. Abu Bakar held CIO roles at notable companies such as Chobani, Barneys New York, and Vineyard Vines. He also served as an Operating Partner at Visible Ventures, an early-stage venture capital firm in Boston, and as President of OPEN Global, a leading organization of Pakistani entrepreneurs with 15 chapters across four continents, promoting entrepreneurship and international cooperation. A frequent speaker at industry conferences, he brings a robust educational background and a career spanning multiple industries, making him well-positioned to lead PSEB’s mission of elevating Pakistan’s global tech presence and advancing the country’s IT sector.
